Associated Studies has kicked off this term with students from Guildhall’s ‘Design Realisation’ and ‘Stage & Costume Management’ pathways getting to grips with Nick’s course in Electrics and Lighting. After an introduction to all the necessary health and safety each student gets to learn about safe electrical practice and then how to rig booms and lights in the Theatre Technology Studio Lab in the Silk Street building. Next week different students will be introduced to Stage Management, Lighting Design and Digital Performance Technology. Updates as soon as they’re in…
Nick’s cunning design layout!
Rigging the boom arms to the scaf!
All the students get hands-on opportunities to do the set-up.
Understanding aspects of a show outside of their chosen specialism can help the students gain a better understanding of the whole show process.
And then up go the lights!
Safely attaching lights to the booms.
Team working supports the whole show process.
Here’s the amazing demonstration of Video Mapping and Stage Automation that was presented in the Milton Court Theatre here at the Guildhall School in September last year. To get more information about this type of activity here at Guildhall contact Dan Shorten (Video) or Simon Bond (Stage Automation) through the contacts link above.
Nick spent last Thursday by the seaside at the NSDF in Scarborough. He had an interesting time delivering a workshop on the subject ‘Using different light sources safely and effectively’ attended by some of the NSDF technical team he led an interesting discussion on use of practical fittings, torches LED and other stuff and general bodging principals.
Here are some photos of Tim’s award winning design.
Congratulations to Guildhall Theatre Technology Alumni Tim Lutkin who won the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design for Chimerica at the Almeida Theatre & Harold Pinter Theatre last night. Check out the list of winners here
Around 50 members of the Association of British Theatre Technicians attended a members meeting to look around our new venues at Milton Court on Friday 4th April. Everyone seemed to enjoy the visit.
Geoff Joyce who organises members meetings on behalf of the ABTT wrote “can I thank you and your team for an excellently run visit around Milton Court”.
“You have a wonderful facility”. Robin Townley ABTT CEO wrote “May I add my thanks to Geoff’s for an excellent Members Visit on Friday afternoon to the fantastic facilities at Milton Court”. “Thank you for managing to thread us into the already very full and hectic programme of the school and giving us such comprehensive and detailed access to so much of the building and the spaces within it”.
“I’m sure all who attended will agree that it was a great opportunity to see a fabulous building and a tremendous collection of rooms”.
We also hosted as part of the same event a meeting of the Society of Theatre Consultants.
