Guildhall School’s first production of the new academic year – ‘True Dare Kiss’ by Debbie Horsfield – has just started fit up in Milton Court’s Studio Theatre. It’s directed by Owen Lewis and designed by Alice Walkling with Lighting and Sound designed by third year Theatre Technology students Jack Weir and Neville Billimoria respectively. Friday’s big job was to start getting the lighting and sound rigs into the ceiling. This job is made easier by the steel tension-wire grid suspended just below the ceiling rig which allows the students and staff to move around freely in the highest quarter of the studio space (see photos below). The rig continues through next week with tech rehearsals starting at the end of the week. (Thanks to Andrew Stuttard for the photos.)
Tickets for this production can be bought here.

This Open Day Automation demonstration was programmed by 2nd year Theatre Technology students Tom Salmon and Jennifer Wright. The empty bars have been used to show the programming capabilities of Stage Technologies eChameleon software, utilising parameters such as speed, time, deads, delays and multi-target moves. The task was to create a 2-3 minute show that could be repeated to small groups of attendees throughout the day.

Here is our new first year Technical Theatre group who are starting classes this week. The introductory classes are for all three pathways so this group is made up of Theatre Technology, Design Realisation and Stage & Costume Management students. They are all experiencing in-depth introductions to all three pathways so they can make informed choices for their future options and allocations, but in two weeks time they will start to split into their pathway groups for some classes whilst coming back together for others such ‘Contemporary Theatre Studies’.
We wish them all the best for the year ahead and hope they really enjoy their studies here at the Guildhall School.
Today we had the opportunity to meet all our new first years on all three Technical Theatre pathways and see them start to acclimatise to their new life here at Guildhall. We wish them all the very best for their time here at the Guildhall School and look forward to getting to know them all better over the next few weeks.
