So ‘Mephisto’ finished last weekend and the students struck the stage on Monday and we managed to catch a bit of the process with a sneaky time-lapse. You can see various elements of the stage design being dismantled – the various bits from the Pit; the cloths on the bars; the ladders on the boxes etc. Enjoy…
It seems like just last week that we were ‘tech’ing drama 1 (The Secret Rapture) in the Milton Court Studio and now this week we’re in the Milton Court main house theatre for drama 2 ‘Mephisto’ (adapted by Ariane Mnouchkine from the novel by Klaus Mann). Directed by Wyn Jones and designed by Susannah Henry we once again have two student designers on lighting and sound – Rory Beaton (year 3 lighting) and Robbie Matthews (year 2 sound). Both have been working hard to realise their creative roles around the complex design that also includes a lot of automated flying (operated by year 2 James Asquith) on a rake stage. The play is set in the theatrical world of pre-war Germany with a group of theatre workers coming to terms with the rise of the National Socialists.
Check out the photos below for a peek in to the rehearsals.

Our first drama of this academic year, ‘The Secret Rapture’ by David Hare, started technical rehearsals on Monday in the Milton Court Studio Theatre (and has sold out already!). Directed by Stephen Unwin and designed by Louis Carver, for this production we also have two student designers – year 3 student Tom Salmon (lighting) and year 2 student Tom Bosworth (Sound). Both have worked hard to capture the visual and sonic experience that Stephen and Louis have created and ‘tech’ is progressing well. Check out the photos below for a brief insight into the week’s activities.
